Kaplan Gmat800-review

The perfect Score: We all know that GMAT is an adaptive test. This means, to get a high score, (750+) one has to cross the hurdle of the toughest questions that the GMAT has to offer.
Given this, when a book comes along with a name like Gmat800, it is bound to have some hype surrounding it. Let’s find out whether the book lives up to its name.
Sections: The book is divided into sections for Critical reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Correction, Problem solving, and data sufficiency. The difficulty of questions listed in the book, is certainly of a relevant GMAT level, and that too, hovers around the more difficult level. The book does not go below a certain level of difficulty, and one will not find a large number of problems trivial to solve.
Format: The general format of the book is as follows.
Each section starts with a very brief explanation of the strategies that might be useful for that section. This is in stark contrast with most of the GMAT books in the market which do have learning material in each section. Each section is divided into chapters and each chapter has one or more types of problems explained. The explanation for each type of problems is clear and to the point. The chapter normally ends with a practice exercise. The explanation to the answers of these practice exercises is very good, and will certainly go a long way in strengthening the nuances of the subjects involved.
Difficulty: The questions in most sections are quite difficult, and should help the candidates get a good feel of the 700-750 questions. The verbal section is covers a lot of tough questions. The math section has relatively easier questions, and we feel that the level of complexity could have been higher. The GMAT will certainly throw much tougher math questions at you if you are aiming for a near perfect score.
Summary: The book certainly lives up to the promise of providing tough questions. The math section could have been a little tougher. With a large number of questions and great explanations, this book is certainly recommended.
